How to Add a Link to Your Instagram Bio: Step by Step and Common Mistakes
Steps to add a link to your Instagram profile, ways to make better use of the single link and common mistakes. Measurement tips with short links.
On Instagram you cannot put clickable links under your posts, so the link field on your profile is one of the most valuable spots. Used well, it sends followers to your website, your shop or your newest content.
How do you add the link?
Menu names and steps can change as the app is updated; the field you need is usually on the profile edit screen.
- Open your profile in the Instagram app and tap "Edit profile".
- Find the Links (or Website) field and add your link.
- Make sure the address starts with https:// and is typed correctly.
- Save, then open your profile from another account and test the link.
Why should you use a short link?
Long addresses with parameters look messy on a profile and do not inspire trust. A short link looks clean and lets you measure clicks. When you create a separate short link for each campaign, you can see which content brought clicks.
Support the link in your bio
- Write a clear call to action in your bio text: "New guide below".
- Say what the link is: menu, booking, shop.
- Point to the profile link in your posts and stories too.
Common mistakes
- Linking to a broken or expired page.
- Sending people to a page that loads slowly on mobile.
- Leaving the same link in place and never updating it for campaigns.
- Making a small typo when typing the link: always test after saving.
Measure the results
After a week, look at the click count. If clicks went up after a certain post, do more of that kind of content; if not, change the call to action or the link destination.
